Obama to Push Comprehensive Immigration Reform This Year PDF Print

President Obama announced plans to address the country’s immigration system this year. Mr. Obama will speak publicly on the issue this May after discussions with lawmakers from both parties with possible legislation changes as early as Fall 2009. The Obama administration favors legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants into the legal system by imposing fines and other penalties. Comprehensive immigration reform could provide legal status for an estimated 12 million undocumented iimmigrants in the United States, and address inequities in the legal immigration system.
