USCIS memo on security check delays |
On February 4, 2008 the USCIS issued a memo instructing adjudicators to finish processing I-485 applications for permanent residence if the FBI security check has been pending longer than 180 days. The USCIS previously required all security checks to be completed before an I-485 application could be approved, causing delays of months and years beyond normal processing times. No change has been made to the requirement that security checks be completed before an N-400 application for citizenship may be approved.
